2011-2012 Guild Challenge Project

Group
Quilting
For most of
us, getting together with other quilters is one of the main reasons we joined
the Guild. Why not take it to the next level, and actually CREATE a quilt with
your fellow Guild members?
Group quilting
can be a fun and rewarding part of this great hobby. Everyone has a chance to
share their creativity, expertise and time. We hope you'll join in for this new
challenge.
Process:
- In
September and October, Guild members who want to participate will sign up for
the challenge.
- After
all the names are collected, they will be divided up into groups. At the November meeting, the groups will be announced and we will
facilitate seating with your group. The number of groups will depend on
the number of sign ups. NOTE: you will not get to pick your group; assignments
will be random. This is a great way to meet members you may not already know!
- Once
you know your group, each group will need to take some time to decide on their
particular challenge. This can be done in person, by email, or by phone
(challenge coordinators will provide emails/phone numbers). Please choose your
challenge quickly, so you have ample time to sew. For example:
- Make
a block based on a specific color
- Make
a block based on triangles
- Make
a "round robin" quilt
- Once
you have decided on a challenge, get started creating! At some point, you will
need to work with your group to decide who facilitates each step. For example,
who will piece all the blocks together, who will provide batting or backing
fabric, who will quilt it, who will bind it.
- The
only deadline you have is the final Guild meeting in June. Of course, if you
want to show off your progress throughout the year, feel free to bring your
projects to show and tell!
- One
final decision your group will have to make...what to do with the final quilt!
You can raffle it to each other, or to the entire Guild. Or, you can donate it
to Sunshine or another charity of your choice. It's all up to you!
