FOUNDING OF THE GUILD
The
Garden State Quilters guild was founded in 1981, as "a new club for
quilters and quilt lovers." The original 35 members met on September 14,
1981, at the Library of the Chathams in Chatham, New Jersey. By the
time the first directory was published, the guild had grown to 54
members. Today, the guild consists of approximately 250 members and it
draws nationally-recognized and award-winning quilters and quilt artists
to speak at guild meetings and conduct workshops. Read more about the founding of the guild in this letter from Judy Dales, one of the founding members.
Garden State Quilters, Inc. is a non-profit
incorporated as of April 1991, and follows state regulations for
non-profit organizations.
All guild officers have one vote per office, except Programs. Programs has 2 voting positions as stated in the original bylaws.
